Top graduates awarded Law Society of Saskatchewan medals

The top graduates from USask Law were honoured at the college's convocation celebration on June 5.

Law Society of Saskatchewan Gold Medal: Kira Dmytryshyn

USask Law Dean Martin Phillipson presents the Law Society of Saskatchewan Gold Medal Award to Kira Dmytryshyn during convocation on June 5, 2025.

Kira Dmytryshyn grew up in the village of Glaslyn, Saskatchewan. Before attending law school, she studied linguistics for two years at the University of Saskatchewan.

During law school, Kira became especially interested in litigation. She enjoyed the practical opportunities she had to explore this interest, participating in the criminal law practicum as well as the Gale Cup and Laskin moot competitions.

It was at the Laskin national moot competition this spring that Kira helped the USask Law team achieve second place overall out of 19 schools, our college’s best ever finish at this event.

Kira and her moot partner Alkida Luca placed second after mooting in the final round in front of Justice Nicholas Kasirer of the Supreme Court of Canada. Kira and Alkida also tied for third place overall in the ranking of 76 student oralists who competed at the Laskin.

Kira was also a member of the Saskatchewan Law Review Editorial Board. As many of you know, only students at the top of their class are invited to apply to serve on the board.

Kira thanks her friends, family, and the College of Law faculty for their support throughout her studies, including their patience through many law-related rants.

Kira will be clerking in Saskatoon at the Court of King’s Bench for Saskatchewan for the year following law school.

Law Society of Saskatchewan Silver Medal: Brenna Triffo

Brenna Triffo grew up in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and convocated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Philosophy and a Certificate in Ethics, Justice, and Law, both from the University of Saskatchewan.

She then took a break from school for two years and worked at a technology company in Saskatoon before beginning her law degree.

During her time at the College of Law, she volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada on the Consent Project and served as an Editor and then Managing Editor of the Saskatchewan Law Review. She also worked as a research assistant with Professor Sarah Buhler.

This past year, Brenna also participated in the Dean's Forum on Access to Justice and Dispute Resolution, which was a highlight of her time at the College. She has a special interest in family law and is now articling at Scharfstein LLP in Saskatoon.

Law Society of Saskatchewan Bronze Medal: Emma Neufeld

Emma Neufeld was born and raised in Saskatoon. Before attending law school, she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with great distinction from the University of Saskatchewan.

During law school, Emma completed the Certificate in Common Law French program, spending a semester on exchange at the University of Ottawa and participating in the Bastarache Moot Competition. She was also a member of the Saskatchewan Law Review Editorial Board.

Emma is grateful for the support of her family, friends, and classmates during her studies, and would also like to thank the professors and faculty at the College of Law for their support and guidance.

After graduation, Emma will be clerking at the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan.

The College of Law is grateful to the Law Society of Saskatchewan for its support of these awards.

Together we will support and inspire students to succeed. We invite you to join by supporting current and future students' needs at USask.
