Profile
Funmilola Abioye holds a LLM (cum laude) (2007) and a LLD (2011) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Her undergraduate degree, LLB is from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Prior to joining the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan, she was an Associate Professor at the College of Law, University of South Africa. She harnesses these diverse academic and professional experiences in her current role.
Dr. Abioye currently teaches Legal Research Writing (LRW) and Property Law. She has taught Conflict of Laws and Tort Law. Her research engages with themes pertaining to the use of force in conflict situations, rule of law, legitimacy of legal systems, climate litigation, and international migration. Her publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited works, and her other research activities reflect these interests.
She served on various committees and governance structures at her former university and was Editor-in-Chief of the Comparative and International Law Journal of Southern Africa from 2017 to 2021. She holds memberships of a number of international associations, including the International Law Association (ILA), where she serves on the Committee on International Migration and International Law. She held the role of co-rapporteur on this committee for four years and has contributed to the 1st and 2nd interim reports of the Committee.
