U of S team wins Best Speaker Award at International Mediation Competition

The College of Law has once again brought home an award from the International Commercial Mediation Competition.

The U of S team of Bruce Gordon, Brooke Johnson, Joe Fingerote and Jordan Thompson, coached by Kathy Ford, QC, and Professor Michaela Keet, was presented with the Best Speaker Award during the closing ceremony on Feb. 10. The award was one of one of ten special awards presented and recognizes excellence in communication skills.

This year’s event took place Feb. 5-10 in Paris, France. The U of S team was one of 66 teams representing 32 countries competing in 147 mock mediation sessions. This is the third time the U of S has competed at this event and the second year in a row that they have brought home an award.

“We are very proud of the U of S’s strong performance on the international stage,” said coach and Professor Michaela Keet. “It reflects the strength of our programming in this area, and the skills and commitment of our students.”

The competition is organized by the International Chamber of Commerce and is known as the world’s most important mediation capacity-building experiences. The event brings together a truly international group, combining business, economic and law students with leading professionals and scholars in the field of mediation today.
